Abstract
This historical research work analyzes the documentation of the Vatican Apostolic Archive on the relationship between the Bishopric of Ávila and the Nunciature of Madrid during the last years of the Second Spanish Republic. Enrique Plà y Deniel assessed the situation regarding the clergy after the approval of the 1931 Constitution. When he was transferred to the diocese of Salamanca, Santos Moro Briz was advocated to the Ávila See. The prelate had to face radicalization of positions around the 1936 elections and recurring difficulties for the peaceful development of apostolic activities in the Ávila diocese
