Resumen

With this research, we sought to assess the influence that a physical activity program has on certain psychological dimensions in adults. On the other hand, it was also tried to determine the correlation that exists between psychological variables and natural environment, taking into account the effects that contact with nature and outdoor activities imply in people. Methodology: Subjects in the sample belong to the adult population (n = 17). Our intervention program has consisted of covering a 74-kilometre walk, during about sixteen hours (four days and four hours each day). The route mostly run by natural spaces in the Primitive Way of Saint James through the Lugo province. The mental health scale SCL-90R, the Spanish adaptation scale Ryff's psychological well-being, the LOT-R test and the TMMS-48 were the instruments used for the evaluation. Results: Findings have shown that non significant improvements are obtained in most mental health issues with the assessment of a program like this; however, some dimensions are positively affected (somatization, obsession and compulsion, paranoid ideation and additional components). Conclusions: To achieve greater benefits in subjects psychological dimensions, we conclude it would be necessary to execute a longer program. In the same way, to obtain greater significance, the sample used should also be increased. Finally, on the other hand, it is considered important to start more schemes to promote physical activity by state entities, with the intention of increasing the population psychological health.
