Abstract

During the last few years, a huge amount of studies have showed that the anthropometric parameters of both sportsmen and sportwomen are key factors for success in sports. Many of these studies show that given the same physical training conditions (both at quantitative and qualitative levels), those subjects whose body composition and anthropometric characteristics are more flattering for a sport in question are those who obtain the best results in sport. The main goal of this study was to analyse the possible anthropometric differences among young sportsmen and sportswomen who play handball, as well as the differences between sexes and categories (infantile and cadet) and the evolution in each category. The sample consisted of 4 groups each one having 15 sportsmen or sportswomen. The sportsmen and sportswomen took part in the study being distinguished by sport, category and sex. There were significant differences of body composition and fitness among sports and among the categories studied in the same sport.
