Abstract
Ageing in people with intellectual disabilities and their families leads to situations in which all family members need adaptations to keep a good quality of life. This research contributes with data about perceived needs and family quality of life that allow facilitating resources and social-politic planning for families with over 45 years old members with intellectual disabilities. A total of 362 "Family Quality of Life Surveys" (Sainz, Verdugo y Delgado, 2005) were applied in Castilla y León, and 36 were applied in Asturias. Descriptive and inferential analyses were carried out. Results showed that "Family Interaction", "Health and Security", and "Parental Role" domains have a positive influence on family quality of life. However, the domains related to supports ("Family resources" and "Support of the family member with a disability") indicated a low perceived satisfaction. Differences between mothers and fathers were found in "Family interaction" and satisfaction with home maintenance support. Obtained information is helpful in facing the new challenge of dependence.
