Resumen

Introduction: high intraocular pressure is a common pathology which becomes more prevalent with increase of age. If high intraocular pressure occurs and persists over a period of years, it increases the risk of developing glaucoma. Objetives: The main purpose of this research is to find the effects of the technique of "pumping the eye" of people who have intraocular pressure (IOP) on medical treatment. Also try and analyse the relationship between IOP, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and heart rate. Material and methods: It's an experimental clinic test, randomly select patients but controlled. We selected 60 patients with high intraocular pressure, men and women, between 18 to 65 years of age and on medical treatment. We divided them in two random groups: experimental group and control group. IOP, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, heart rate are measured under the same conditions before and after applying the technique and 15 minutes later. The IOP is measured with a portable applanation tonometer (Kowa tonometer HA-2). Results: IOP in patients with hypertension with medical treatment decreased significantly (P < .001) after the pumping of the eye's technique. The same result were obtained persistent in the following 15 minutes. A great statistical relationship was found between IOP and systolic pressure at all times (P < .05).
