Nowadays, the production of energetic crops for obtaining biofuels is increasing; this situationwill greatly influence the characteristics of European agriculture. The increase in the demand ofrapeseed oil by the bio-diesel industries creates interesting perspectives for this crop. The effect of fertilization on seed production of three cultivars of Brassica napus (ESHydromel, ES Betty, ES Nectar), and one cultivar of Brassica carinata (Linea C-101) wasstudied. An experiment was developed in dry conditions in the province of Salamanca (autumnsowing). Two different commercial formulations applied at different rates and times, plus anunfertilized control, were used as treatments. Seed production increased with the addition offertilizers (p<0.01). However, no significant differences in production existed among fertilizertreatments (p>0.05). Seed production was found to be similar (p>0.05) for the three B. napuscultivars tested.
