Zusammenfassung

In this article, the authors analyse the poem of Gilgamesh, one of the most significant texts in Sumerian culture, written in the third millennium BC, which summarizes the big issues concerning human beings. After approaching the figures of Enkidu and Gilgamesh -the two main characters in the poem-, the importance of the search for immortality, as in the case of Gilgamesh after his friend Enkidu's death, is emphasised. Finally, there is an outline of the learning that derives from this poem, considered one of the foundational texts in western cultural tradition.
