Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of two training programs, Nordic Hamstring (NH) and Sprint (SP) on physical condition in young soccer players. Fourteen players participated in the study and were randomly assigned to the NH group (n = 7) or the SP group (n = 7). To assess the changes in their performance, the following tests were applied: Countermovement jump (CMJ), 5 and 30 m sprint, change of direction (COD) in a 90º sprint towards both directions and the break angle in NH. The NH group presented significant improvements in the CMJ (p = 0.05) and in the sprint in 5 and 30 m (p = 0.002-0.001) and the SP group obtained them in the sprint in 5 and 30 m (p = 0.003-0.001). These results suggest that NH should be used to seek improvements in CMJ and sprint, while to improve acceleration and maximum speed, SP should be chosen.
